Sustainability reporting from the soil of Iceland 
Reykjavík Energy (Orkuveitan) is an energy, utilities and innovation company that provides essential services to most of the population of Iceland and a significant portion of the businesses. Reykjavik Energy responsibly, sustainably, and efficiently utilizes resources, with respect to nature and safeguarding the rights and well-being of future generations.. 

Reykjavík Energy has four subsidiaries:
1. Veitur Utilities is the biggest utility company in the country
2. ON Power produces and sells electricity to Icelanders from geothermal and hydroelectric power plants in addition to producing hot water sold to Veitur Utilities
3. Reykjavik Fibre Network sells households and businesses access to fiber optics and high-speed data 
4. Carbfix specializes in the carbon mineralization process and Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS)

In 2023 Reykjavík Energy had a yearly revenue of ISK 60 billion (DKK 3 billion) and 600 employees, and it is among the largest companies in Iceland.

Reykjavik Energy integrates sustainability into its core operations, environmental stewardship and social responsibility is fundamental to all employees. The environmental management system of Reykjavík Energy is certified according to ISO 14001, ensuring systematic environmental performance improvements. Reykjavik Energy has set Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) validated climate goals aiming for carbon neutrality in its own operations by 2030, and net-zero emissions across its value chain by 2040. To ensure transparency and accuracy in reporting greenhouse gas emissions and emission reduction initiatives, the company’s climate accounting adheres to ISO 14064-1, certified by Bureau Veritas. 

Reykjavík Energy has undertaken land reclamation and afforestation for over 70 years, and the nature-based projects aim to restore soil and vegetation cover, improve soil quality, rejuvenate natural birch forests, and enhance biodiversity, these projects have also been verified by Bureau Veritas.
